Britten Prescription Glasses

If you want glasses that look smart and get out of the way, a rectangle is hard to beat. The Britten is a men’s full-rim rectangular frame, sized 54-18-140, in Tort or Tort / Brown. You can order it with single vision, varifocal or bifocal lenses made to your prescription. It is part of our Walter & Herbert range.

Tort or Tort / Brown?

Tort. In Tort, the frame is tortoiseshell. It flatters warm and olive skin and works with almost any outfit.

If you are stuck between two, choose the one closest to the colours you wear most. You can always add a second pair later.

About the Britten design

Rectangular lenses suit round and oval faces, adding a bit of definition. Look for the little studs at the corners, a classic detail that lifts the whole frame.

It is the kind of frame that works with most outfits, which makes the Britten an easy pick for everyday wear.

How to wear it

Short hair and a clean shave make the frame shape stand out; with longer hair or a beard it reads as more relaxed.

Frame size and fit

The 54mm lenses put it at the upper end of medium. The 18mm bridge is average. The 140mm arms are a standard length. Across the lenses and bridge it measures about 126mm.

The easiest way to check is against glasses you already love. Most frames show their size inside the arm; if yours are close to these, you are in safe territory.

Lens options for the Britten

Choose the lens type that suits how you use your glasses:

• Varifocals if you want to see near and far without swapping glasses.
• Single vision for one task done well, such as driving, reading or screen work.
• Bifocals if you prefer a clearly defined reading area.
• Ready readers for straightforward close-up help.

Want lighter lenses? A high-index lens is thinner than standard plastic. Pair it with an anti-reflective coating for less glare when you drive after dark.

What you will need

Have your prescription to hand before you start. It shows the sphere, cylinder and axis for each eye, and sometimes your PD. If the PD is missing, your optician can give it to you. Then choose your colour and lens type, enter your prescription and add any extras, such as thinner lenses or a coating. You can check everything in your basket before you pay.

From our lab to you

Your Britten is glazed in our UK-based lab. Once you have chosen your lenses and entered your prescription, we cut and fit the lenses and check the finished glasses before they go out.

A little care goes a long way

Rinse off any grit before you wipe, dry the lenses with a clean microfibre cloth, and take your glasses off with both hands so the arms stay aligned. See our lens care guide for more.

What size is it?

It is size 54-18-140: 54mm lens width, 18mm bridge and 140mm arms, a medium fit.

Can I use the Britten as computer glasses?

Yes. Single vision lenses set to your screen distance, or varifocals if you also need distance vision, both work well for desk work.

What is havana or tortoiseshell?

A mottled pattern of browns and ambers, a classic eyewear finish.

Where are my lenses made?

In our UK optical lab. They are cut to your prescription, fitted into your frame and checked before they are sent out.
