Astell Prescription Glasses

A cat-eye is one of the most flattering shapes you can wear. The Astell is a women’s full-rim cat-eye frame, sized 53-17-140, in Black, Brown Tort, Grey / Tort or Purple Tort. You can order it with single vision, varifocal or bifocal lenses made to your prescription. It is part of our Walter & Herbert collection.

Choosing your Astell colour

Black. Black is a deep, solid black. It is the safest choice if you only want one pair, and it never looks out of place.

Brown Tort. In Brown Tort, the frame is brown tortoiseshell. It is a classic that looks relaxed and a little bit vintage.

Grey / Tort. In Grey / Tort, the frame is grey tortoiseshell. It is a quiet, professional finish that works with navy, charcoal and white.

Purple Tort. In Purple Tort, the frame is purple tortoiseshell. It is a classic that looks relaxed and a little bit vintage.

If you are stuck between two, choose the one closest to the colours you wear most. You can always add a second pair later.

The upswept outer corners suit round, oval and square faces especially well, giving the face a gentle lift.

Whether it is your main pair or a spare, the Astell is easy to live with.

How to wear it

Pair it with simple gold or silver earrings and let the frame do the rest. If you wear your hair up, a frame like this can act as your main accessory.

How it fits

At 53mm per lens, it sits in the medium range, the most common adult fit. The 17mm bridge is average. The 140mm arms are a standard length. Across the lenses and bridge it measures about 123mm.

To check the fit, look at the three numbers printed inside the arm of glasses you already own. If they are within two or three millimetres, this frame should feel similar.

Lens options for the Astell

Choose the lens type that suits how you use your glasses:

• Single vision: one prescription across the whole lens, for distance, reading or the computer.
• Varifocal: near, intermediate and distance in one lens, with no visible line.
• Bifocal: a separate reading segment in the lower part of the lens.
• Ready readers: simple magnification if you just need help with close work.

If your prescription is high, a high-index lens keeps things thin. An anti-reflective, scratch-resistant coating is a sensible extra for everyday wear.

Before you order

Make sure your prescription is in date; most adults in the UK are advised to have an eye test every two years, and your optician will tell you if you need one sooner. You will also need your PD, which tells our lab where to centre the lenses. With those two things ready, ordering takes a few minutes: choose your colour, pick your lenses, enter your details and you are done.

Your Astell is glazed in our UK-based lab. Once you have chosen your lenses and entered your prescription, we cut and fit the lenses and check the finished glasses before they go out.

Looking after them

Use lens spray and a soft cloth, fold the arms before putting your glasses down, and store them in a hard case. Our guide to looking after your lenses covers the rest.

Is the Astell comfortable for all-day wear?

Yes. It is a lightweight frame, and a thinner lens for a stronger prescription keeps the weight down even further.

What is havana or tortoiseshell?

A mottled pattern of browns and ambers, a classic eyewear finish.

Do you make the lenses yourselves?

Yes. Every pair is made to order in our UK optical lab, where your lenses are cut to your prescription and fitted into your frame.
